It's pretty pathetic that this horticulturist has hardly any healthy houseplants until recently. I used to have quite a few. Then, enter Tex...the anxious greyhound. He destroyed most of my plants in a anxious moment when he first came to live with me. He wanted to look outside and dang it, there was a breakfast table in the way full of houseplants. So, he knocked over the table and he was happy. I was not.
Then, he discovered that my umbrella palm was just his height. So, he chomped on it. Grazed on the palm would be a better word. Ummm...one problem. Umbrella palms are toxic. Lucky for him (and me) that they just caused a kind of paralysis/seizure. And luckier still, I figured out what was going on and removed the plant to the Greenhouse where it recuperated and was sold to a customer without pets.
Now, that I am back home, I have been puttering with my plants. The interior of my house does not receive the best of light except for the back. So, the cacti live upstairs in the home office as my philodendron seloum. I have been growing pothos (who doesn't) and they can be found everywhere. I have one gardenia plant that I have carefully put downstairs by the glass doors. I am wondering if it should go upstairs into the office where there is an abundance of light.
So, there are benefits to being home to my plants.

Good luck with your houseplants. I find gardenias very hard to grow ... yours might enjoy more sunlight ... I know I would:)
ReplyDeleteI seem to accumulate house plants like fuzz on a black suit. Last year I got rid of 50% of my house plants. I think I've accumulated that 50% (and more?) this year. How does that happen?

Joey...yes, this is not my first gardenia. My mother is in Texas and has one outside. Talk about plant envy! I just hope that I can keep it through the winter.
Donna...I have learned the hard way with pets and plants. This is my first pet that was destructive to houseplants. Aggh!
