Its the end of May... and with all this rain... the weeds are knee high in most of the flowerbeds on campus. I am running out of time before the temperatures climb in the unbearable range. I have a good crew of 3 guys that like to work outside with me and we have been working outside prepping the beds.
We worked on a bed that I planted Montauk Daisy in November of 2006. I don't have a picture but Wow, they are small bush sized! We weeded them out and straightened them out...moving a few of the bushes to fill in gaps where plants had died. We then planted about 15 containers of Plains Coreopsis... this is the picture of Plains Coreopsis that I took at Longwood gardens last summer. I can only hope that my coreopsis will begin to look similar. So far they are much smaller but, they have been struggling with less than ideal conditions. Maybe now that they have been planted with a little fertilizer they will start to be pretty!
We talked briefly how much work goes into making the beds look nice... the guys were wondering if anyone really noticed. I say, yes, they notice and even give out compliments.
