Medical Center in Mosaic

This is the artistic rendition of the main building of the Medical Center which sits at the top of a hill. So, in this mural, the recovery tree is at the bottom of the hill and the Medical Center is at the top. My visual interpretation of the Recovery Tree in relationship to the building is similar to the historical genealogy "tree". From the Medical Center and its programming, comes forth Recovery for many.My Mom sent me this poem and I think it is very description of a representation of the importance of trees. The last line is a haunting refrain.

Prayer of the Woods

I am the heat of your hearth on the cold winter nights,

The friendly shade screening you from the summer sun,

and my fruits are refreshing draughts quenching your thirst as you journey on.

I am the beam that holds your house,

the board of your table,

the bed on which you lie,

and the timber that builds your boat.

I am the handle of your hoe,

the door of your homestead,

the wood of your cradle,

and the shell of your coffin.

I am the bread of kindness and the flower of beauty.

'Ye who pass by, listen to my prayer:

Harm me Not.

  1. Just last week I read this poem for the first time. It was in our local Audubon Society newsletter. Nice to see it on your post.

My new post is about trees, too.
