Mosaic Clay Pots

Here is my twist on Mosaic Tile clay pots...

Start with one clay pot. Put "recycled" ceramics and glass beads on clay pots with tile adhesive. Let dry for a few days. Then grout using a recipe of one part water to two parts grout mix. use a terry cloth for getting the major grout off and then a sponge to fine tune the grout around the tile. That terry cloth rag is good for polishing up the tiles of any extraneous grout.
Viola!

We get donations from the recreation therapy clinics of unwanted ceramics and we "recycle" them in various ways. As you have seen in earlier posts, we put the ceramics pieces and make wall art. This is the latest rendition of recycling ceramics. These ceramics are unwanted items that have been painted and fired. Usually, the ceramics are monotone and painted by veterans in the hospice or dementia clinic. We don't care that they are all one color... that makes it easier to sort colors.
It is great to see such creativity out of some macho guys....

  1. What a great way to dress up clay pots. Thanks for the directions - I may try it someday.

  2. You made it sound so easy that I think I'll have my grandson do some pots for Mother's Day gifts. Of course, I'm smart enough to know that nothing is as easy as it sounds, when working with a 7 year old boy.

I enlarged the last photo to get a better look and was impressed by all the nice colors. Any ideas on where I might get my hands on "recycled" ceramics? Too early in the year for yard sales. Maybe Goodwill?
