Spring where are you?

We are really having the Spring Fever around here... the snow storms have been horrific this year with more snowfall in February that ever!

I have been doing my part to combat the Seasonal Affective Disorder brought on by incessant snowstorms and grey days by seeding up and transplanting seedlings with 6 veterans and one assistant none of whom have done this work consistently. We have grown a variety of stuff. Of course, there is the Romaine Lettuce (2 crops) which is standing pretty tall and spinach which is really trying.

We have Celosia (the first crop is pictured here in two phases). The First picture is 2.12 and the second is 2.27.10.

We also have many other seedlings ...

Basil (picture on the right hand side) oregano (pictured to the left),
parsley, dill and cilantro.

We are going to have a large sale in the area of the Medical Center where the canteen (a junk food haven), cafeteria, and dining room are located. Hopefully, people will come out and buy the herbs to keep in a sunny room as they are cheaper than buying them in the grocery store for gourmet cooking.
In and amongst all these seedlings, we have had serious discussions about appropriate work behaviors. Ie. Working next to others who work at different paces than you, attendance, punctuality, appropriate topics for discussion in mixed company... oh, the list is long.

Yes... the growing season has begun in the GREENHOUSE!!

  1. There are many lessons to be learned from working with others in the greenhouse, the garden or just out in the yard. I had to smile at your list of behaviors, especially appropriate topics for discussion in mixed company.

It's amazing the difference in the Celosia crop from 2-12 to 2-17. I don't think the herbs that Phillip planted are ever going to look like yours. I look forward to the next update.

  2. Lush and green are the first words that came to mind when I saw your pictures. Great display! Note to self: visit a local greenhous to see lush, green growth in person!

  3. Your seedlings look fantastic! Too bad I'm not closer to where you are, I'd buy some in a skinny minute.

    Good luck with the sale!

  4. Thank you all... I love to read your comments. Time to write seems to escape me, so I am finally getting another post together. Last week we sold a good portion of our herbs at a plant sale. We did well because the herbs were so large and ready-to-eat!
